A thousand years of history floating on the lagoon

Founded over 1,600 years ago on a cluster of islands in the middle of a lagoon, Venice grew from a refuge of fishermen into one of the most powerful maritime republics in history. For centuries the Serenissima ruled the Mediterranean, building palaces, churches and trading routes that connected Europe to the East. Today its labyrinth of canals, bridges and squares preserves an extraordinary heritage of art, architecture and culture — a city unlike any other in the world.

    Doge's Palace

For nearly a thousand years the seat of Venetian power, Palazzo Ducale is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture overlooking St. Mark's basin. Inside, gilded chambers, Tintoretto's Paradise and the legendary Bridge of Sighs tell the story of the Serene Republic.

    St. Mark's Basilica

Crowned by five Byzantine domes and over 8,000 square metres of golden mosaics, St. Mark's Basilica is the spiritual heart of Venice. Built from the 11th century to enshrine the relics of the Evangelist, it blends East and West like no other church in the world.

    Murano & Burano

A short ride across the lagoon leads to two unforgettable islands: Murano, the world capital of artistic glassmaking since 1291, and Burano, with its rainbow-coloured fishermen's houses and centuries-old lace tradition.
